Quinn Dray grew up in northern New Mexico and earned degrees in fine art and psychology from UVM in Burlington, VT. His painting pertains to an exploration of the mutability of objective perception as determined by emotional states. That is to say, he works from the thesis that the perception of imaginal reality, being at heart a psychological process dependent upon collaged sensory information, changes dramatically in concert with the emotions of the viewer. To express this visually, he forms his painting compositions by overlaying landscapes with abstract sculptural layers representative of emotional influence. Since moving back to New Mexico and returning to his roots, Quinn has been drawing much of his inspiration from memories, impressions, and dreams of the land.
